HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 64

Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to make a study concerning the desirability, feasibility of and the advantages to be gained from, forming a joint legislative committee on technology whose primary responsibilities would include informing officials in government regarding all aspects of technology and science and to promote the development of technology and science in this State.

Whereas, The current state of affairs regarding the development of science and technology is such that advances in same occur exponentially while it is nearly impossible for most persons to remain abreast of all such new developments; and
Whereas,
New or improved technologies and scientific advances with applicability to commerce, government, education, law-enforcement, medicine and other institutions of society can offer time-saving, comprehensive and, perhaps, fail-safe strategies and mechanisms designed to reduce human cost and offer greater human freedom, flexibility, health, longevity, creativity and satisfaction; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby directed to review, examine and study the desirability, feasibility of and the advantages to be gained from, forming a joint legislative committee on technology whose primary responsibilities would include informing officials in government regarding all aspects of technology and science and to promote the development of technology and science in this State
; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2001, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
